Review:

My Love Will Set You Free is more than a romance novella. It is an eloquently written look into the human heart and soul when uncertainty, heartbreak, and hope are presented. From the very first line in the story the reader will be captivated. The writing is poetic, crisp, and beautiful. I found myself flipping through the pages with eagerness to find out if the main character would find love a new love, or would her lover return? The characters all feel real, as does the dialogue. Nothing is lacking in this story, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a deep, emotional, yet uplifting love story.

Beautiful Stranger is quick read that delivers on heat, romance, and an overall fantastic story. 

We begin with Claudia, a young woman bored with her job and her life, and tired of the worthless men she's used to dating. On a chance encounter she meets Peter. He's drunk in his car, and seems utterly hopeless...except he's incredibly good-looking and somehow urges an uncharacteristic response from Claudia.

She offers to drive him to her house to sober up.

Interesting...

Once at her home it doesn't take long for his charm to spark something new in her. She learns of his wife's betrayal and immediately empathizes with him. How could anyone cheat on a man so attractive, wealthy, and genuinely kind?

Passions ignite, and the two heat up the pages as they explore and please each other's bodies. The sex scenes deliver, and are well written...but what pleases me is that it doesn't end there. There is so much more to this story that you must explore. Beautifully written, with characters that feel real almost immediately, this book is one that I would recommend.

This thrilling love story starts off when the two main characters, Allison & AJ, meet on a train headed in the same direction: away. AJ Adams is a strong, but deeply damaged Civil War Vet, who’s been through hell and back. Allison is a tough, sassy woman is running away from her hometown and all of the horrid memories that haunt her there.  Among many things, she’s running from a man who wants her dead; the same man who is responsible for killing her twin sister & nephew. When the two meet, AJ quickly realizes Allison isn’t your typical woman and doesn’t take orders, particularly his ordering her to go away when she wanders into his train-car. They immediately butt heads but inevitably let their walls down. It’s not long before they both end up developing somewhat of a soft spot for each other, soft enough that AJ drops everything & pulls Allison off of the train and out of harm’s way when they discover she’s being followed. 

However, she isn’t being followed by just anyone, not only does she recognize Nathan Garrison as the right hand man to Oakten, the man who wants her dead, but AJ and Garrison are no strangers. Oakten is Adams number one target for all of his pent up anger from being help prisoner of war, where he faced unimaginable conditions and punishments. Punishments handed down from the Prisons Commander, Oaken himself. So what starts out as helping a damsel in distress, turns into the perfect opportunity to get to Oakten. Using Allison as bait wasn’t intended to be harmful; it was more a means to an end, all while keeping her safe. Things don’t get too complicated until he realized he’s fallen completely head over heels for her. As she for him. The two end up teaming up with the main objective of getting out of dodge & finding a way to bring Oakten to justice, for all that he has done to not only AJ, but to Allison as well.

A story fit for the big screen, set in the good old western days. The love story was deep and touching, with a couple of steamy love scenes along the way. The author did a flawless job at capturing how close both sides of the Civil War were; brother virus brother, friend virus friend, so on and so forth. It’s impossible to know just how awful the war truly was but the author threw in true stories to paint somewhat of a picture that will easily bring a tear to your eye. As a huge fan of AJ Adams, I would have enjoyed a more drawn out revenge on Oakten, but was more than content with the ending. Overall it was a great story, with lots of action and drama. Ends were tied up, with twists and surprises you’d never see coming, but will leave you entertained and satisfied, with a smile on your face.

Another great read by Lynda Cox, thank you & well done!

Dark Prophet: The Chronicles of Koa is the second Koa novel written by author K.N. Lee and it’s a great follow-up to Netherworld! We spend the beginning learning about Koa’s past, and in the present the action picks up seconds after the last novel ended. Koa and Jax are fleeing from the Netherworld while Halston fights off some nasty creatures who are bent on destroying him and hunting Koa down. This all leads to a story that is a thrilling ride full of action and adventure.

Jax is a welcome addition to the Koa Chronicles, especially considering the connection and fondness Koa’s developed with Halston. All the characters and their dialogue are written well, most of all Koa who continues to be an awesome protagonist as she unknowingly evolves into a powerful player in both the human world and Netherworld.

But my highest commendation for the story is the imagination of author K.N. Lee. What really sets this series apart are the worlds and pieces she’s created. The Lyrinian Blade and the Infinity Gun are just a couple examples, and then there are the unique creatures which infest the Netherworld. All of the creation and originality helps to pull you in and leave you wanting more.

If you enjoy the supernatural element this is definitely a series to pick up! If you read and enjoyed Netherworld, then this purchase is a no-brainer!

Raven closed her eyes and sighed.

Eunju.

She missed hearing her real name. To be free from her curse to live as a cat. To have her beloved daughter back. Those were the things she now fought for.

The carnage before her was sickening, but she had to remember why she was there and what they were up against. Still, days of tracking Bund’s crimes were beginning to wear on Raven. She only hoped that soon Koa and Halston would return from the Netherworld with the one vamp that could reverse her curse.

“This is awful,” Alice said to Raven as she knelt over the little girl’s body. “For someone so young to suffer this way.”

Alice covered the girl’s mangled face up and stood. She had to be careful not to step in the puddle of blood. She shook her head. “It’s fairly fresh. I’d say this was probably his first kill of the morning.” Alice let out a long breath. “What a damn shame. He’s certainly not trying to be discreet about any of this.”

Raven followed behind her, saddened by what she had seen. “How are we going to stop Bund?”

Alice flicked a hand and the two detectives who had been investigating the murders woke up from their trance. She sidestepped them and disappeared into the crowd on the sidewalk before they even realized what had happened.

“First, we should tell everyone to keep their children inside, lock their doors, and pray that Bund doesn’t become bold enough to start snatching little girls out of their bedrooms.”

Raven squeezed her eyes closed. She hated to imagine what happened to the girls that Bund chose. Just thinking that Koa had been harmed by him brought back terrible feelings of sorrow and worry.

Alice glanced back at her. She smoothed her short pink hair with the palm of her hand. “But we can’t exactly tell the humans about the existence of vampires and psychotic demons, can we?”

Raven sighed. “I suppose not.”

Alice made a face. “You know, I sometimes think ignorance isn’t quite as blissful as it seems. Maybe the humans wouldn’t be so foolish if they knew that supernatural creatures were targeting them.” She gave Raven a look. “What do you think?”

“Don’t some of them know though? The kids that go out and become pets know.”

“True. But that’s only a slim portion of the human population. I wonder what would happen if we just hopped on the television and made an announcement.”

“The Netherworld Division wouldn’t be a secret organization anymore.”

Alice grinned. “Exactly. Halston and I could fight crime in the open, instead of trying to hide it. But oh well. It would never work. The humans are lucky to not have such worries on their mind. I guess that’s why we do what we do.”

Raven quickened her pace as Alice turned a corner towards a cemetery. “I suppose.”

“Indeed, little kitty. I am searching for the powerful, the fearless… the perfect crew.” Alice reached in her pocket and pulled out a small device that resembled a compass. Raven wished she was taller, to see its face. She heard a tiny clicking sound and saw a gold light shoot from it and stretch far into the maze-like mausoleum buildings.

“Alice,” Raven called, pausing to stare at the light. “What is that?”

Alice lifted a brow. “What? Oh, it’s something Halston made for me.”

Raven sat on her back legs. She licked her paws. She hated being dirty, and the cold dirt was getting stuck in between her claws.

“I can’t wait to see what gadgets he’s created for you.” Alice smiled, walking in the direction of the light.

Raven lifted a brow and hurried behind. “What?”

Alice chuckled. “You didn’t think that Halston would let you into the division and not give you some sort of weapon, did you?”

Raven was speechless. She’d never thought of such a thing. She’d never needed gadgets before, but when she was in her true form, she had enough power to not need the use of weapons.

Raven’s fur stood on end. She looked up at the sky. Clouds slowly began to block the sun and the air grew colder. Night would soon be upon them. She felt herself growing a little weary. There was so much evil that awoke when night fell.

Book Review: Where North Meets South and East Meets West By Timothy Louis Baker

Sufi adepts supposedly project their souls out of their bodies.  Other people claim to have died, gone to Heaven and then returned to the land of the living here on earth.  Such stories arouse mysterious and intimate emotions, which dilate blood vessels, causing chills to slide along the subcutaneous nerves of readers.  Qualms of apprehension and excitement bubble to the surface.  Only the dull, the insensitive, are immune. 

Whether or not such stories are true is the subject of learned debate.  Neurologists describe such events as anticipatory delusions, the result of misfiring brain synapses.  The psychologists differ; such experiences, they explain, are the personification of ardent religious desires boiling up from the subconscious.  Preachers refer to the soul.  Paranormalists observe that ghosts and haunted houses exist.  Which may or may not be their way of saying – with a heavy dose of sarcasm – “Big deal.”

Near the end of his remarkable book, Timothy Baker writes:  “Or how would it sound to somebody else if you just began to testify that you had the answer to all religions that comes from an experience in the afterlife you had?  Like as not you’d end up locked up.”

Tim Baker did both.  He had a “flesh on flesh experience with Heaven.”  And he got locked up.  In other words, Tim Baker has lived a life beyond belief.  A life of drugs, cars, jail, bumming around, prison, and persecution.  And like the Apostle Paul, Tim Baker has gone to Heaven and come back to relate the occurrence.

The book is called Where North Meets South and East Meets West (NSEW).  It’s half memoir, half travelogue, half biography, and half spiritual manifesto.  You respond by saying that’s two halves too many.  You are correct.  NSEW is more in two distinct ways.  For one, it is very subtle.  For two, it is different (in a good sort of way).

Baker’s writing style has to be experienced to be believed.  It’s so totally sundry and miscellaneous.  As if listening to the stream-of-consciousness outpourings of a precocious adolescent who can’t be bothered with normal thought processes, because they constrict his manner of expressing himself.  Frankly, it takes a little adjusting to, but once you get the hang of it, it’s simply marvelous.  In fact, it’s charming.

            A brief summary of the book would go something like this:

NSEW is the full and accurate report of the nimble proceedings in the highly extraordinary and highly interesting life of Timothy Louis Baker, who was a criminal, a tweaker and an inmate in both a prison and a mental asylum.  The story comes complete with opinions on pretty much everything under the sun, including love, life and happiness.  Along with extra-sensory perceptions and spiritual visions.  Also included are character sketches of a “black magic warlock” and other assorted evildoers.  Along with a detailed history of the author’s vocation as a Prophet, together with many other delicious tidbits of informative information, which have never before been revealed to anyone, man or woman or angel or beast.

It’s quite a book.

This collection of short horror stories is well written and will make your skin crawl! Try not to read it in the dark...or alone...or an empty house. I enjoyed every story, especially the one about the painter. It reminded me of the Curse of Dorian Gray. Within this collection you'll be faced with demons, ghouls, vampires and more. I felt that the author's style was reminiscent of H.P. Lovecraft. I have a feeling that I'll be thinking about these stories for quite a while.

My Review:

5 out of 5 stars

 Within the first page you can see that this is not your customary romance novel. No, the author is a literary magician. Her writing is so engaging that she sucks you into Shayna's psyche and life within moments, and you have no choice but to greedily gobble up every page in this book. The characters are so well rounded that they jump off the page. And the dialogue...wow! It's very realistic and not stale and forced like many other romance novels. But wait, Chain of Title is not just a romance novel. There is a great deal of suspense and intrigue as Shayna starts a new life as a single woman. And Sean...oh yes...he's awesome. I cannot wait to read more from this author!

You quickly realize that the author of this book is incredibly intelligent and definitely did their research when writing this incredibly entertaining book. Religion, history, science, and fantasy combine to create one remarkable piece of work. Fast paced and full of action and suspense, you'll be wrapped in a tale of impending doom. And to top it all off...there's time travel! I found myself held in captivated attention from beginning to end and am feverishly looking for more work from this author. A must-read!!!
