David Revilla wrote his first book with pencil
and paper, a work lost in the innumerable passages of time…i.e., his basement.
Years of procrastination and several short-stories later, The River
Styx is his first published novel. The only thing harder than writing
the book, he admits, was restraining himself from editing it “just one more
time,” because as everyone knows authors are their own worse critics.
A native son of NYC, he dreams of one day moving
to someplace less sunny.
1. Favorite music to listen to when writing?
I do love 80's music. Phil Collins or Eddie Money.
2. Coffee or tea?
Coffee, definitely!
3. If you could meet any historical figure, who would it be, and why?
This is a tough one. Probably Miyamoto Musashi. He was a samurai who lost every battle in his youth, never gave up, and became a master. He's the author of the Book of Five Rings, which is still hailed as a centerpiece of strategy to this day. I'd like to meet him because no matter how many times he lost, he never stopped perfecting his craft, becoming the most legendary samurai of his day. That's someone to admire.
4. Now, if you could meet anyone in the future, who would it be, and what would you tell them?
Me. I think a lot of people would like to know how'd they'd end up in the future and I'd want to know how it all turned out.
5. Favorite actor? Why?
Toss-up between Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr. They both play eccentric characters (Jack Sparrow/Tony Stark) and are just brilliant. Also, you got to show respect to Yanks who can accurately portray British characters.
