CP Mandara Blog Tour **A Rough Ride** Book Feature

CP Mandara Blog Tour **A Rough Ride** Book Feature

Who will have the pleasure of training Petal? By rights, the honour should go to Mark Matthews, but the cowboy has other plans. The matter is not settled until the stable owner is brought into the fray.

It is to be a monumental first week for Albrecht's newest trainee. The pony girl will have two days to find a way of coping with her new latex bodysuit and the rigorous buzzing and pumping of the never-ending 'device' which torments her every waking moment. She will then find herself shipped off as a sex-slave, chained and caged, to the mysterious high-bidder from the auction.

It doesn't take Petal long to realise that her chances of escaping from Albrecht are slim at best, but her defiant nature won't let her give up hope just yet. There is a way out for her, but she may have to give up more than her sanity in order to achieve it

About the Author:
Christina Mandara was born in the UK, but has spent most of her life travelling the world. She speaks three languages and has been chiefly employed in the fields of finance and travel. Her favourite city is Sydney and her favourite holiday destination is the south of France.
She loves keeping fit and enjoys running, cycling and water sports. No, not those kinds of water sports; think surfing or sailing. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t enjoy BDSM in all of its glorious forms, be that pony girls, bondage, edge play, orgasm denial or a damn good spanking. Her favourite item in the toy closet (a box simply isn’t big enough) is her riding crop.
In her spare time she’s usually cuddled up with a good book, exploring the countryside or baking in the kitchen. In fact, she loves her kitchen so much she’s one of few woman who wouldn’t mind being tied to it! Her first and foremost love is writing, however, and more often than not you’ll find her on a laptop spinning tales of romance, erotica or dark, paranormal fantasies.
Those in the BDSM world might wonder whether Ms Mandara is a top or a bottom. Is she currently training a herd of pony boys or is she stabled up, in full leather tack, with the pony girls? It’s a good question. Answers on a postcard please…

Despite her mistrust, if she's to stop this monster before anymore innocents die, then Chavez and the enigmatic Zero Ozawa will have to combine their knowledge and work together.

An Interview With Author, Joann Buchanan

An Interview With Author, Joann Buchanan

Where are you from?
I grew up in San Diego California, but I currently live in Russell, KS
Why do you write?
I write what comes to mind. I have a shifter series called The Children of Nox which I am finishing my last book in. I also have a romance series called The Halo Saga. The first book in that series is called Shine. The last thing I’m working on is a steampunk fantasy series called Empires Lost. The first book in that series is finished and waiting for me to reread and rewrite it.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I wrote my first novella when I was 13 years old. I have always been a writer.
What genre do you typically write?
All kinds of genres. I just let the story tell itself and when it’s finished, then I know what genre it is. I don’t set out to write in any particular genre.
Do you feel like you have a specific writing style?
I feel I have my own voice. If that comes with a particular style, then yes. It’s not something that happened over night though. It’s something I have been developing since I was a teen.
How long does it usually take you to write a book?
The average time for a first draft is about three months. That doesn’t mean it’s finished, but the idea of the story is.
What do you do to conquer writer’s block?
I read. Sometimes stepping out of my own world into another author’s helps me take a look at my own work. I also work through writers block. Sooner or later something will happen and it will drag me out of it. I haven’t really experienced it too many times.
What can you tell us about your favorite character from your book?
In Shine, I love Elizabeth because she is a normal girl trying to make sense of this world she has been accidentally brought into.
What actor or actress would you like to see play your character in the movie adaptation
I would love to see Elizabeth played by Mila Kunis because I think she could pull off the feisty vulnerable character.
Who is your favorite author and what is it about them that inspires you?
There are too many that I love to narrow it down to one. Frank Herbert, Stephen King, David B. Coe.

What book are you reading now?

I have recently discovered Melissa McPhail. Her book Cephrael’s Hand is like reading poetry in motion. I love how she uses the English language and how it draws me in.

What are your current projects?

I have three chapters left to write in After Dark, and I’ve started working on Corona, book 2 of The Halo Saga.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I know this sounds weird, but I wouldn’t change anything. The reason is because from one book to another, I can see my own personal growth. Besides if I did that, nothing would ever come out…lol.

Can you share a little of your work with us?

From AFTER DARK book 3 in The Children of Nox series.
Fire burns the ice frozen by time.  Embers made of passions flames have become the death that needs covered in the dirt from whence we came.  There are truths hidden in the darkness. They lay dormant, waiting for that single beam of light to shine on them. They are the freedoms we all long for and the balance we all seek and yet they are nevermore and almost lovers. They are the two sided coin of the bastard free will, the brother of that temptress called love.  If that poisonous spell called love danced across the meadows, I would spit on it and walk away.  I would be ignorant to the pain of endless nights and no longer would I live with a shadow over my head. Did I love him? I did and that is the shame I must endure.
The abomination I allowed to be set upon the world haunts me and now the Time of Three is here. I should have let love fall, crash to the ground and burn in the fires of my beating heart. I gave way for the abomination. I lit the flames and now I must watch and wait to see if the world will fall to darkness because of my own transgressions. If there ever was a curse for the gardens that grow in this the beating hearts of mine then it would be sewn with the weeds of regret. It would be the absence of joy and the single loneliness I must cling to in order for sanity to rein in my soul.
I have walked the world with the hope that each night that fallacy I called my lover and husband wouldn’t be set free from the cages that surrounded him. Oh wondrous night and fate filled light, how do you greet me?  Is it with more pain or do you perhaps bring me sanctuary from the darkness of my own making?
The deep wooded forests surround the one place of joy I found during my eternal night. I have no children, death and sleep are not my friends. My arms may be empty but my heart is true and loyal to my wolves. And there, upon the mountains sit the Fates who have watched and woven the tapestries. The three of them signal that now is the time and that sweet silence is no longer an option. In this, the Time of Three, the fate of the souls will be decided. The Dream Protector, the Stained one and now the Child of Light is to be born.  Will they have the same fate as my dear sweet Lillyanna?
I can still remember the way her tiny hand felt when it wrapped around my fingers. There was goodness and innocence in her. She was my light, my soul, killed in a rage by the demon Ash. And now, the regret I called my lover is free to do as he wills. That BASTARD! I know what he seeks. Am I powerless to do nothing about it? Am I not the goddess of the night? Do I not see in the darkest corners of all the universe? How then is it possible that in this time I am helpless? I know I have missed something. I feel it in the night’s bitter air. There is a piece of the puzzle that remains hidden. If I didn’t, then how could his heart have turned so cold to the embers of our love?
I sob as tears stream down my face. I know the decemberist of days are still ahead. I see the threads and long to pull just one to unravel the past and change the present. Damn the Fates for guarding the tapestries so well. If I designed my own fate, then did I also map out the fates of those I have grown to love so much?
 ~~Nox, Goddess of the Night.

From Corona book 2 of The Halo Saga
The soul remembers what the mind can’t.

Rule number 1 To become part of eternity you must be willing to sacrifice everything.
Rule number 2 You will be tested, body, mind and soul.
Rule number 3 From this point on there is no turning back.

Prologue
When I was a little girl, I lived in the country once. Every night I would lay on a blanket under the stars and stare up at the sky. Those stars held such magic and comfort for me. I didn’t look up at them and see just a bunch of twinkling lights a billion light years away. To me, those stars were filled with people. They were my friends, my confidants and yes from time to time, they even held the love of my life. When I looked up at the night’s sky I saw nothing but the possibility that things would get better, I was not alone in the world.
There were so few moments in my childhood where I felt safe and happy—but those nights, when the moon was full and the stars shined down on me; those were the happiest of my life. It was in those stars I made my wish—it was the same thing I wished every night—that one day I would find someone and fall in love. I didn’t want the surface kind of love that most people settled for in life, I wanted the real kind of love that lasted forever. When I was a child, I didn’t know the stars listened. I didn’t know they would send me Samuel…but I believed. And I have to think now, that’s all that mattered.
The day Samuel and I met changed my life…it changed my soul. When we met I was nothing more than a simple human woman trying to make it through life. I loved what I did for a living and I had a few friends, but I was missing that one special person in my life. Who knew the stars listened? Who knew they would send me an angel? And how did they know I would want to become one so we could spend forever together?
If the stars do listen—and I believe they do, then I would like to give them a special thanks for bringing my angel Samuel into my life. I would like to ask them what took so long. Last but not least, I would like others to believe that when you make a wish with all your heart and you believe anything is possible—then it is.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

There are some worlds I hate leaving behind. I know without a doubt The Halo Saga is going to be the hardest for me when the series ends because it is such a beautiful story about love, family and sacrifice.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

My advice is simple, read every day and write every day, even if it’s only for half an hour, take the time to do it.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you for taking the journeys with me. I have enjoyed writing every book I have out and love hearing from you as well.

EXCERPT:
After that, I took the memory card from my camera and put it into the computer to pull up the images. One by one they came up. First were the pictures of the small trees with the beautiful yellow hues of light sparkling behind them. Across the sky, grey clouds formed and rays of light shined through them. I flipped through the photos, taking a quick look at all of them. As I reached the end of the file, I was sure I had imagined everything I had witnessed. Then the last three pictures showed him coming into view. Magical, miraculous, my jaw dropped as I pressed print on the small printer. A lifetime passed while I waited for the printer to finish spitting out the photos. With a sigh, I paced back and forth a little. Waiting wasn’t something I did well.
I looked at the pictures without blinking. I had captured the ray of light with Samuel in it. His body appeared like nothing more than an orb, or could even have been explained away. In the next picture, his body formed, almost ghostly in appearance. Finally, in the last one, Samuel landed on the ground. His wings had disappeared and the man I met was there.
I had seen it happen; it was real. It was proof enough to me that I wasn’t some crazed lunatic. Samuel had come from the sky. Questions still lingered in my mind. What was he doing there? How did I get to my car? There was nothing on the file after the last three images I’d printed. Fear grew inside me the more I thought about what could have happened on the way to my car. I couldn’t quite picture it, but I knew Samuel had saved me. I didn’t know what from, and I didn’t know why, but he had. Why couldn’t I remember?

An Author's Writing Process **Guest Post by Lawrence BoarerPitchford**

Lawrence BoarerPitchford shares with us his writing process. Go on...enjoy the magic!

Authors are awash with writing processes. Those who teach creative writing teach “the process” of writing, and those who write articles advise the reader on “the process” of writing, and in particular writing fiction. There are those who advocate the use of outlines, and those who discuss free-writing; those who write using chronological order, and those who write out-of-order chapters as they come to them. There’s processes for short stories, and novels, screenplays, plays, and television scripts. My “process” for writing fiction you may identify with, but I’ll wager that yours is as unique to you as mine is to me.

As an author I write fiction because I love telling stories. I’m no genius, and certainly won’t be remembered for my groundbreaking prose, but hopefully my audience will remember that they had one hell of a rollicking good time reading my adventure stories. As I’ve matured in my style of writing, I’ve grown aware that I have a “process”. My way of composing a story, be it a novel, novella, short story, screenplay, or other, is relatively the same; it starts with an idea. I have ideas all the time for stories. As I reflect on my past, I’ve done this all my life. Perhaps it’s related to true delusion, or just an overactive imagination, who knows, but it is constant and pervasive within me. So, an idea comes to me, and I sit down at my computer and begin. I begin putting down what I see in my imagination. I, for lack of a better term, spew out the raw thoughts in as coherent a foundation of sentences as I can. Oh, it’s flawed alright; misspellings, character confusions, lack of continuity, corny or anachronistic phrasing. I write a few pages, or even a chapter, then I step away. I take some time to think about the protagonist, and what direction I want the story to flow in. I grapple with plotting – plotting the course of the story to a logical and pleasing end. When I say pleasing, I don’t mean pleasant. I mean that the ending fits the story, characters, and resolves in a way that lets the reader feel that the climax of the tale has terminated without contradiction. So, there I am with a page (or chapter) and a head full of thoughts. I try and envision the ending of my story; who gets what, why, when, and where? For me, without this wrap-up figured out, I will stall, virtually hung up in the process.

Once the end is known to me, I set to filling in the middle, but in a chronological order. I write chapter one, two, three, four… well you get the idea. Each chapter is like a mini novel. Each chapter has a beginning, middle, and end. Each chapter ending leads into the next chapter. If the book is part of a series, then the last chapter will lead into the next book. If not a serial, the last chapter is only the tie-up of the story. Once I’ve come to the end, I stop. I take a break for a while. I work on other projects. After a month or so, I begin the arduous part of reading what I created. This is very laborious, and as I go along I make changes to the draft. I wade into the work hacking this out, changing this, rewording that. As I do, I find the broken bits of logic, lack of continuity, misspellings, clichés, and bad phrases. I hack with impunity. I may junk an entire chapter, half the book, or completely rewrite the whole thing. This part takes months of painstaking effort. When I come to the end, I stop. I put the work away for a little while. I work on another project. Eventually, I come back, and read it again. If it seems relatively coherent, I’ll send it out to some beta-readers to get their take on it. If they tell me it’s a good read, I’ll then put it out on www.absolutewrite.com (The Absolute Write Water Cooler web site) on the share your work forum, and see what those who don’t know me and are free of favoritism have to say. Sometimes it’s very constructive, sometimes it’s down-right ego-neutering.

Depending on the un-bias reviews compared to the potentially bias review by my beta readers, I decide if the project needs an overhaul or is good to go onto the first phase of editing. This first phase is just the cleanup, the seek-and-destroy of as many spelling and grammatical errors as possible. Once done, it goes under the microscope again. I then reread it again. Correct any errors I notice, improve any rough sentence structures for easier reading, and see if the story is matching with the plot correctly. At this point I’m ready for independent editing to take over. Editing can take a while depending how fast the editors can do the copy edit, the content edit, and the final edit. I make the correction as they come, and only if they make good business sense to me. After the editing, it’s off to the formatting. The book is formatted into e-book and paperback formats. After formatting, comes the cover art. I do my own, and make several mockups of what I am thinking would capture the essence of the book, and be appealing to the perspective buyer. After I get feedback on the covers, I go with the one that is the most appealing, and I’m at an end of the Lawrence BoarerPitchford creative writing process, and onto the creative marketing process.

I’m sure that there are some of you out there that read this and said – “That dude is crazy,” or “Hey, that’s like what I do,” or even “Why did I read this?” Nonetheless, the fore mentioned “process” is what I do, and if you’re a writer of fiction, or thinking of doing so, or an avid reader of the type of fiction I write, I hope that you found it illuminating. Buy a Lawrence BoarerPitchford novel/novella and reap the benefits of going on a raucous adventure while never leaving the comfort of your living room – if indeed you have a living room.

Smolder on a Slow Burn **Review**

Smolder on a Slow Burn

‘You will never be damaged or broken
in my sight.’

This thrilling love story starts off when the two main characters, Allison & AJ, meet on a train headed in the same direction: away. AJ Adams is a strong, but deeply damaged Civil War Vet, who’s been through hell and back. Allison is a tough, sassy woman is running away from her hometown and all of the horrid memories that haunt her there.  Among many things, she’s running from a man who wants her dead; the same man who is responsible for killing her twin sister & nephew. When the two meet, AJ quickly realizes Allison isn’t your typical woman and doesn’t take orders, particularly his ordering her to go away when she wanders into his train-car. They immediately butt heads but inevitably let their walls down. It’s not long before they both end up developing somewhat of a soft spot for each other, soft enough that AJ drops everything & pulls Allison off of the train and out of harm’s way when they discover she’s being followed.

However, she isn’t being followed by just anyone, not only does she recognize Nathan Garrison as the right hand man to Oakten, the man who wants her dead, but AJ and Garrison are no strangers. Oakten is Adams number one target for all of his pent up anger from being help prisoner of war, where he faced unimaginable conditions and punishments. Punishments handed down from the Prisons Commander, Oaken himself. So what starts out as helping a damsel in distress, turns into the perfect opportunity to get to Oakten. Using Allison as bait wasn’t intended to be harmful; it was more a means to an end, all while keeping her safe. Things don’t get too complicated until he realized he’s fallen completely head over heels for her. As she for him. The two end up teaming up with the main objective of getting out of dodge & finding a way to bring Oakten to justice, for all that he has done to not only AJ, but to Allison as well.

A story fit for the big screen, set in the good old western days. The love story was deep and touching, with a couple of steamy love scenes along the way. The author did a flawless job at capturing how close both sides of the Civil War were; brother virus brother, friend virus friend, so on and so forth. It’s impossible to know just how awful the war truly was but the author threw in true stories to paint somewhat of a picture that will easily bring a tear to your eye. As a huge fan of AJ Adams, I would have enjoyed a more drawn out revenge on Oakten, but was more than content with the ending. Overall it was a great story, with lots of action and drama. Ends were tied up, with twists and surprises you’d never see coming, but will leave you entertained and satisfied, with a smile on your face.
Another great read by Lynda Cox, thank you & well done!

Introducing Author, D.L. Carter **Author Feature**

Introducing author, D.L. Carter

D.L. Carter was decanted from her incubation pod in the outback of Australia many decades ago. This terrifying event was closely followed by shrieks of "there, there it goes. Hit it with a brick!"
These valiant attempts to correct the existence of D.L. were, unfortunately, unsuccessful and she now resides in New Jersey, US., in a box with her toys, two human beings and three cats.

**Mature Audience Advisory***
Brothers are supposed to be kind... caring... supportive... protective. Catherine Walman's brother, however, is not. He has maligned her reputation until no honorable man will seek her company, wasted her dowry and endangered her home with his gambling and now his new wife has made it clear Catherine is no longer welcome. The hand of fortune intervenes when a letter arrives advising Catherine that a stranger has bequeathed to her "a home and money to keep it." Catherine seizes upon this chance, hoping that it might be enough for her to be independent, to be free - only to discover this stranger also had a brother, or two, or three.

5 star review

Don't you love when good things happen to people who really deserve it? And, when horrible people get what they deserve? That is the type of literary fulfillment that Ms. Carter is offering with this regency mystery/romance. As with all her works, the characters are complex, the dialogue is witty, the plot is intriguing, the mystery is not-easily-solved (or guessed) and the romance is perfectly paced with just the right amount of steam! My favorite thing about this work is that, though the suspense kept me on edge, there were several well-placed laugh-out-loud moments. I know that I will read this one again and again!

5 star Review

I love love love Crimes of the Brothers. I must admit, I am a fan of D.L. Carter, I expect great things from her and with this book I was once more deeply entertained. I find that you can't go wrong with wit, romance and laughter. More than once my husband asked what was so funny since I wouldn't stop laughing. The main character, Catherine, is a strong woman with a weak family to say the least. The brother is irresponsible and totally deplorable. She is financially savvy and can hold her own with the best of them. This book makes me want to travel to England, the description of the country side transport me back in time. The Marbone Estate could be the setting of the next BBC short series. I was thinking of Downton Abbey quite often when reading the happenings of such a large Estate. I adore Sir Philip De Clerke, at times I wanted to kiss the book and hope the kiss reached him...lol. And of course, Sir Philip's mother has to be the overbearing, overreaching future mother in law. There were twist and turns in the story's plot to keep me wondering and entertained. I'll keep my fingers cross and hope there is a sequel to this book. :)
